FOR A BETTER CALGARY
BY : JAMES MAXIM
May 26, 2014 (51 days & counting
A Better Calgary like most of us Calgarians look at the weather reports each morning and the skies for a forecast of bright sunshine with no rain. Since beginning this daily report the rain in the forecast has been light. I continue to also monitor the upstream weather conditions along with the snowmelt and river flow levels.
As each of you reading this material look to the weather forecasts as provided by the Government of Alberta & the City of Calgary for up to date reports.
We the residents in Rideau Roxboro continue to seek answers as to what plans the City of Calgary has for Secondary Flood Mitigation Strategy: Property Protection Plan for the flooded communities of 2013. We count day-by-day as we near June 20-21, 2014, one year later. NO FLOODING
This day in the Calgary Herald front page it showed the flood protection of the home of Allan Markin. Please refer to the Calgary Herald for more details.
This evening the City of Calgary were holding a two part open house as to the By-Laws being considered for the flooded area of Calgary Communities. I plan on attending the event at Christ Church this Thursday May 28, 2014.
I have read and spoken with many people including the Mayor as to the By-Laws being considered. While the need for by laws is important, I question the policy framework to support the need for a set of by-laws. When residential areas are controlled by many a by-law it is my opinion that instead of by-laws which get discretionary power, could we not consider building code rules for development in the flood plan areas?
Tomorrow my plans are to view our future days activities as to the by-laws, up- coming media sessions and finally the release of the Westhoff Report for the Rideau - Roxboro Community Association Community protection plan for 2014.
