FOR A BETTER CALGARY
BY: James Maxim
May 16, 2014 (61 days & counting)
Yesterday was Day One of the Calgary Flood season and today being Day Two we have a total of 61 days to be on the alert and to be mindful of the weather and the water levels of the Elbow & Bow Rivers. Sign up for the City information alerts during this period of time. It is very important to be aware of weather conditions.
On behalf of A BETTER CALGARY, I will be writing a blog every day until July 15, 2014 or later if required.
I have been told there is some rain in the forecast for this weekend in the order of 40-60 mm. This may cause some increased river flows but the City has been lowering the level in the Glenmore Reservoir the last couple of days.
Today along Rideau Road in front of our residence, I had the occasion to speak with two sets of individuals working on behalf of the City of Calgary. One pair was reviewing planning issues in the Rideau Roxboro area. The other group was viewing the riverbank and places of interest that they were comparing to new flood maps and information. I am assuming they will be back new week for more work as to secondary flood mitigation plans and strategies. (Hopefully temporary berms).
Please enjoy your weekend with family and friends, drive safely and look forward with optimism for good weather in the coming weeks
I urge all Calgarians to visit Calgary.ca/floodinfo for updates and to subscribe to the City of Calgary Newsletter.
STAY INFORMED ABOUT ALL THINGS FLOOD- RELATED
